Progressive proof of the yellow and blue with a triple impression, making the item much darker

• One of those strange items that made it to the philatelic market. It is a blue and yellow progressive proof that has double perforations vertically. Unfortunately, all copies of this that I have seen have been taped on the back in some areas and on the front to reinforce the perforations. That is the darker area across the top, the center and on the right side. In time this will destroy the stamps.

• The above perforated yellow and blue progressive proof is often described as an error with missing colors. It is not an error. It is unusual because most progressive proofs are not perforated, but the stamps of this period in Bangladesh postal history were manipulated by unscrupulous people to make money.

Additional: Many imperforated stamps exist, including at least one full set of sheets that was not cut up. The souvenir sheet is also found imperforate and it is believed 500 copies were sold. The imperforates were not officially sold by the Post Office.

• Difficult to see at first, but there is an extra row of perforations at the top through the printing "Centenary of Olympic Games 1896-1996". Only three copies are known.

• A privately printed cachet for the perforated Olympic souvenir sheet. Such covers are scarce as privately printed cachets were seldom made for the Bangladesh First Day Covers. This cover was drawn, printed and then the images hand colored. These covers were made by Dr. Aleem Al Razee Khan and he made less than 25 of them.

• An imperforate FDC of the Atlanta souvenir sheet. The sheet was not issued imperforate but several hundred made it to the philatelic market. The price of this sheet (Not a FDC) has been falling due to the limited number of Bangladesh collectors, the high price, and the large number of sheets available. Many topical collectors have also been buying it.

• Unapproved designs for stamps for the Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

29 July - Silver Jubilee of Bangladesh Postage Stamps, 1971-96 (Overprint on the 12 May - 1st Bangladesh National Philatelic Exhibition-1984 imperforate souvenir sheet)

• The 1984 souvenir sheet was overprinted in 1996. The Scott Catalog has incorrectly listed it (#246c) along with the original sheet as having been released on the same date in 1984. These are obviously printer's waste, or were created for the philatelic market. The released sheet was similar to the red printing, but in black.

• The above image shows the two different types of envelopes used for the FDC. The one on the left is the darker cream color and does not have visible side flaps. The side flaps were folded in first and then the bottom folded upward to cover them. The two examples on the right are probably the more common of the two, and because the cutting was not always equal, the flaps were of different sizes and when folded over covered part of the inscription on the bottom right of the cover.

• The normal stamp of the higher value of the two stamp set of Children's Paintings, issued in 1996, is on the far left. The center pair is somewhat odd in that the colors are slightly different from the issued stamp and the upper stamp has a double impression. The item on the right is a perforated progressive proof of the blue and yellow state.

• The difference between the accepted stamps and these are basically the Benghali under the middle line of English script, which is "BANGLADESH" in Benghali. The left image is an unaccepted essay. It was changed to the top row with the bottom line in English, reading "50th Anniversary of UNICEF".

• Illustrated above are imperforate pairs of the various color combinations used to make up the finished stamp. The completed stamp is on the far right. Imperforates were seldom issued but items like those above came onto the market either illegally or through the release of a sheet or two of the items. The lower line of proofs were an unaccepted essay. Only the blue and yellow progressive proof could still be used as it had no writing on it.
